The big, bad boys of the St. David’s Bench are back. Blind flight tastings of 2007 vintage Shiraz left the reserve stores from our Queenston Road Vineyard clearly divided along stylistic lines. On one side sat restrained, elegant, Viognier-infused French oak barrels destined for Broken Press, and on the other sat their black sheep siblings: gregarious, brawny new American oak barrels. Concentrated, powerful, and intense, the eleven barrels in this blend were individually selected to offer a contrasting expression of the same vineyard, and demonstrate the influence of oak selection on flavour profile
