The 2000 vintage harks back to the early days of Creekside and marks the beginning of an ongoing obsession with experimentation and curiosity. This tradition method sparkling wine was intended to be the trial run for Creekside’s sparkling wine program, but ended up being both the first and last sparkling ever made. Multi-layered on both the nose and palate, this wine crosses traditional toasty brioche notes with crisp citrus fruit and a deceptively explosive mousse. You don’t spend 10 years hanging out in the Creekside cellar on lees without picking up some funk, and “X” shows biscuity, bready, autolytic character in spades, but it’s complexed with the (still) youthful vigor of the Niagara Peninsula’s hallmark acidity.
